Hopefully I can be really productive with my WIP grinding in the coming days so I can use some of my time off around Christmas to catch up to Chihayafuru properly, because THESE RECENT CHAPTERS. Holy hell. I have loved this manga for like... four years now, and we’re finally getting developments that I’ve been waiting for for so long it’s wild to think they’re actually happening. Some of this stuff is so juicy and emotionally intense it makes my shipfic I wrote in 2014 seem incredibly restrained. Chihayafuru is like a period drama; the levels of yearning and repression are so thick that the touch of hands takes 200 chapters to build up to and it’s the most searing thing I've ever witnessed? God. Just putting this here for posterity/so these panels don't get buried in the depths of my Twitter account.
The romantic framing of some of these panels, dear god:
I feel the need to write fic but I don’t even know what I would write, because Shinobu clutching Chihaya’s hand and telling her they’re going to play each other in a five game queen match series and also that Shinobu is going to become the first professional karuta player in the world—that’s everything I could ever want. I just need them to kiss now. I feel like Mitski, “one good movie kiss, and I’ll be alright”!!!!!
